The popular South Beach diet, created by Dr Arthur Agatston, is a slight modification of the Atkins diet. It allows red meat, cheese, and eggs but limits the use of sugar and white flour. Dr Agatston permits carbohydrates and most vegetables high in fiber, but discourages the use of high glycemic index foods such as baked potatoes and carrots. He also discourages the use of butter and fried foods. Any short-term weight loss success would be attributed to a low caloric intake, rather than to any special feature of the diet.

Just Do It

Four out of every 5 adult Americans do not exercise enough. They say they don't have enough time. Studies reveal that regular exercise not only adds years to your life but also improves the quality of life. And those who enjoy their physical activities gain the most benefit. For many people, brisk walking is their activity of choice.

Regular physical activity (30 min/day, 4 to 5 times a week) lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels; protects against heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis; strengthens the immune system; helps maintain an appropriate body weight; decreases anxiety and depression; improves mental capacity, blood circulation and digestion; reduces stress levels; boosts self-confidence; improves the quality of sleep; delays fatigue; and decreases death rates from all causes.

The whole body was designed for action. Without regular exercise the mental and moral powers are weakened. All of us should schedule our own regular exercise program, and we'll continue with it, if we enjoy it and do it with friends.
