Dairy and Health
- People with high blood pressure who took one-half cup of milk fermented with Lactobacillus helveticus daily for 3 weeks experienced significant drops in systolic (7 mm Hg) and diastolic (4 mm Hg) blood pressure.
- The use of dairy foods apparently decreases the risk of stroke possibly due to its low sodium content and rich content of calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
- In another study, a high calcium intake, mainly from dairy products, was associated with a 32 percent greater risk of prostate cancer.
